Confidentiality & Ethics

Our commitment

At MushinTalks, your trust is the foundation of everything we do. Every practitioner on our team follows the ethical standards of their profession, the guidelines of the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) where applicable, and Indian law, including the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.

Our work is guided by five principles:

  • Respect: We honour your dignity, choices and pace.
  • Confidentiality: What you share stays private, within the limits explained below.
  • Do no harm: Your safety and wellbeing come first in every decision we make.
  • Honesty: We are clear about what we offer, what it costs and what it cannot do.
  • Inclusion: Everyone deserves care that is free of judgement.

Confidentiality

Everything you share with your practitioner is confidential. This includes the fact that you are a MushinTalks client. We will not share your information with family, employers, schools or anyone else without your written consent.

When we may need to break confidentiality

In rare situations, the law and our duty of care require us to share information:

  • You are at serious and immediate risk of harming yourself.
  • Someone else is at serious risk of harm from you.
  • A child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected, or is at risk of it.
  • A court order or legal authority requires us to disclose information.

In these cases we share only what is necessary, only with those who need to know, such as an emergency contact, a medical professional or the authorities. Wherever it is safe to do so, we will talk to you first.

Clinical supervision

Our practitioners discuss their work with senior colleagues to maintain quality of care. Your name and identifying details are never shared in supervision, and supervisors are bound by the same confidentiality.

Your consent, your choice

If you want us to share information with someone, such as your psychiatrist or a family member, we will do so only with your written consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time.

Records and data security

  • Practitioners keep brief session notes to support your care. These are stored securely with restricted access.
  • Online sessions run on secure, encrypted video platforms. Sessions are never recorded by us.
  • Payment and booking details are handled separately from clinical notes.
  • You may request a summary of your records, ask for corrections, or ask for deletion, subject to any records we must legally keep.
  • We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and never sell or share your data for marketing.

Ethical practice

Informed consent

Before therapy begins, your practitioner will explain how sessions work, the approach they use, fees, and the limits of confidentiality. You can ask questions at any time, decline any activity or technique, and stop therapy whenever you choose.

Qualified practitioners

  • All MushinTalks practitioners hold relevant qualifications in psychology, counselling or a recognised therapy field. Clinical psychologists are registered with the RCI.
  • Practitioners work only within their area of training. If your needs fall outside it, we will refer you to someone better suited.
  • Our team takes part in ongoing training and regular supervision.

Professional boundaries

  • Practitioners do not form personal, financial, romantic or social media relationships with clients.
  • They will not take on a client they already know personally, to avoid a conflict of interest.
  • Gifts beyond a small token of thanks are politely declined.

Inclusive, non-judgemental care

We provide care without discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, religion, caste, ethnicity, age, disability, language or background. We respect your values and cultural context, and never impose our own beliefs.

Evidence-informed and honest

We use approaches grounded in research and professional practice. We do not promise cures or quick fixes, and we will tell you honestly if we believe therapy is not helping or another form of support would serve you better.

Minors, schools, groups and organisations

Children and teenagers

Work with clients under 18 needs a parent or guardian's consent. To help young people feel safe, practitioners keep session content private. They share general progress with parents, and always share any safety concern.

Schools

When we work in schools, individual conversations with students stay confidential. Schools receive only anonymised, group-level feedback. A student's personal information is shared with the school or parents only if there is a safety concern.

Organisations

In corporate wellness programmes, employers never receive information about which employees used our services or what was discussed. Any reports to the organisation are anonymised and aggregated.

Group sessions and community circles

Everyone in a group agrees to keep what others share private. Practitioners will remind the group of this, but cannot fully guarantee it, so please share only what you are comfortable with.

Raising a concern

If you feel a practitioner has acted unethically, or your confidentiality has not been respected, please tell us. You can raise it with your practitioner directly, or write to us in confidence at admin@mushintalks.com.

Every concern is reviewed by our management team, who will respond within 7 working days. Raising a concern will never affect the care you receive, and you can ask to change practitioners at any time.

If you are in crisis, please call 112 or Tele-MANAS at 14416, or go to your nearest hospital.
